Mary Ann Cangialosi

Mary Ann Cangialosi is a self-taught fine artist and painter of 28 years, and former textile designer. Her signature style of art has evolved to reflect and align with her values, personality, and life's experience. That said, Ms. Cangialosi's one of a kind pieces can be described as animated, genuine, expressive and experimental, while layered with complexity. Many of her works have a physicality to them, as their surfaces are tactile with varying amounts of texture. She believes these qualities derive from her fascination with what lies beneath the surface. Her work attempts to provoke the viewer with the same childlike curiosity that is inherent to her process. Moreover, Ms. Cangialosi becomes energized by color, which is a significant focus in her work.

Ms. Cangialosi expresses her passion for various themes within her practice. She believes it is the artist's role in society to utilize modes of visual communication to promote change and advocate for the greater good. In collaboration with TAIFWE and their mission to end domestic violence, Ms. Cangialosi has created an original mixed media artwork with the intention to sell-for-donation to a local domestic violence shelter in the Raleigh, NC area. She wholeheartedly believes that domestic violence is a devastating problem for many people, of every demographic all over the world. Having been both directly and indirectly affected by domestic violence, she understands some of the many challenges these victims face when they so desperately want to escape the daily abuse. She feels the utmost compassion for these beautiful women and children, and prays that they find and sustain peace, serenity, health and healing, and the independence they need to thrive as the capable women and mothers they were meant to be. She hopes her contribution can at least make a small difference in the lives of these amazing families.
